Since the establishment of Rocklea Showgrounds by the Rocklea Agricultural and Industrial Association Inc. (Rocklea Show Society) in 1917 with James Tuckett as the first Chairman, the Rocklea Agricultural and Industrial Association has been run by volunteers to ensure that this piece of history is maintained.

HISTORY

The current site of the Rocklea Showgrounds was originally part of William Henry Pegg Dairy and the Rocklea Show came to be recognised as equal to the best in Brisbane, as Rocklea at that stage had a very strong agricultural and cattle industry.

The only years that the show has not been run was during the Second World War when the Australian and American Armed Forces were located at the showgrounds. During this time dances were held at the showgrounds to farewell soldiers going off to war overseas and to raise funds to send ration packs to soldiers fighting overseas.

Rocklea and the surrounding areas have certainly changed from the early farming days when the Rocklea Agricultural and Industrial Association was formed. We still pride ourselves on providing a venue that supports the local community and maintains the heritage of the agricultural past of Rocklea.

Many committee members are second generation show society members, with their parents heavily involved in the Rocklea Show Society for many years from the 1940s and 50s.
